At night, an iPhone lies on a rumpled linen duvet beside a pair of headphones, lit by a bedside lamp. On its screen, Aftertale’s Tonight screen shows tonight’s story.

  1. 1

    Tell it what you like

A short conversation about your evenings and the stories you like, read aloud by the narrator you pick. It ends with your story profile, ready to share.

  2. 2

    A new story every evening

Picked from your answers, with a line on why. A quiet reminder at the time you set. Rate what you finish, from Love This to Not for Me, and the picks learn from it.

  3. 3

Read it, hear it, or both

Start on the page, then tap Listen From Here on any paragraph. The cast picks up where your eyes were.

          When does Aftertale launch?

Aftertale is available now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

          How much does it cost?

The first story you start is yours in full, and every other story plays a preview of about three minutes. To open every story, there’s Aftertale Plus, a weekly or yearly subscription, or Lifetime, one payment that also covers the stories added later. Apple bills both through the App Store, which shows the price in your currency before you buy. There’s no free trial. Aftertale Plus renews automatically, and you can cancel anytime in your Apple Account settings; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

          What does “full cast” mean?

Every character has their own voice, and a narrator carries the story between them. The lines are acted: a whisper, a laugh, a pause before someone answers.

          How is tonight’s story chosen?

From what you tell it in a short conversation when you start: the genres and moods you like, the couples you like to read about in romance, and the stories you’d start tonight. Then from how you rate the stories you finish: Love This, I Like This or Not for Me. The card says why it picked each one, like “Because you like suspense”.

Can I choose a story myself?

Yes, the whole library is open. In Search, describe what you’re in the mood for, like “a slow-burn romance by the sea”. Or type a line you remember, and Search finds the story it came from.

          Is Aftertale made with AI?

Yes. Stories and voices are made with AI and checked against our content rules before they’re published. No voice is ever presented as a human narrator.

          Who are the stories for?

Adults. Aftertale is rated 16+. Romance fades to black, horror builds dread without gore, and no story involves real people.

Which devices does it work on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Your library and your place in each story sync between them through iCloud.

          Do I need an account?

No. There’s no sign-up and no password. Your subscription belongs to your Apple Account, and your progress syncs through iCloud.

          Can I listen offline?

Stories you’ve played recently are kept on your device, so they keep playing on a weak connection. Downloading stories ahead of time for fully offline listening is planned for an update after launch.

Will it keep playing after I fall asleep?

No. Nothing plays on its own: when a story ends, it stops. You can also set a sleep timer; the voice fades out over ten seconds and Aftertale keeps your place.

Does it remember the stories I’ve finished?

Yes. The Library keeps a night diary of every story you finish, with the night you finished it. Home shows how many nights in a row you’ve listened, and Your Stats has the rest, like how many stories you’ve finished. It all syncs between your devices through iCloud.

A bedside at night: a lamp glowing over a steaming cup of tea, and on the linen duvet a pair of headphones beside a phone.
